Getting a new puppy is a very exciting time. Just like a new child, puppies need to be taught at an early age. Puppy training is important because it will have a huge impact on how your dog behaves later on in life. If you train them while they are young, puppies will grow up to be obedient, good full-sized dogs. Potty training your new puppy is probably one of the most important elements in puppy training. Teaching them early to let you know to let them outside when they need to use the bathroom can save you a lot of heartache and perhaps a lot of carpet as well! Show them how to use certain parts of the house especially set up for them to use the bathroom as early as possible. This can really help avoid unnecessary messes. Be sure to discipline your puppy (gently!) whenever they use the bathroom in places they shouldn’t, and this should teach them to know where they can and cannot go.
Chewing is a part of being a puppy, so it’s important to understand that as you go through puppy training. Puppies are in their teething stages just like children, so remember that their urge to chew should hopefully be a passing phase. There are products that can help ease this and help to prevent excessive chewing. Bitter apple can be sprayed on furniture and other things which will deter your puppy from chewing on them. Make sure to buy lots of chew toys and snacks for them to use instead. Encourage them to chew on these things, and eventually they will know not to use your coffee table or shoes as a chew toy. Puppy training is beneficial for both you and your new dog. With the right enforcement of rules and a lot of love, you’ll have a loyal and obedient friend for many years to come. |
